Pray and ask God what He wants to do through your child. Ask Him to help you understand what the Lord sees in your child, whether problem or blessing. Pray that God will bless your child through the efforts of others who lead him or her into true maturity.

Your child will definitely succeed in life because of the prayers that you share with him. Your daily prayers are helping him to grow in God’s love, and your faith will make sure he is successful. Please continue praying for us as well, and watch his learning curve take off with flying colors!

At some point, parents realize they can’t control everything and can’t guarantee their children a lifetime of happy endings. Instead of giving up in defeat, wise mothers understand that praying for their children is the best thing they can do. So we get down on our knees and pray for wisdom and guidance from God, who created our children and loves them even more than we do (it’s true!).

If you find yourself praying for the same two or three things repeatedly, iMOM can assist you. Here are some specific ways to pray for your child, as well as scripture references to assist you.

Ask for faith

We do our best to feed our children the truth on a consistent basis, but they must eventually embrace a relationship with God on their own. (Luke 2:52 “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, as well as in the favor of God and all the people.” John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice; I recognize them, and they follow me.”)

Make a health-related prayer

It’s something that mothers of healthy children take for granted, but mothers of children with serious health issues value above all else.  Everybody needs a reminder of what’s important in life. Psalm 103 reminds us that God forgives us, heals our ills and helps us overcome them.

Make a friendship prayer.

Good friends are an important part of your child’s social and emotional development and can help shape their opinions. (Proverbs 12:26) “The righteous choose their friends wisely, but the wicked’s path leads them astray.”

Pray for a better future.

Your child may still be a member of the crayons-and-paste set, but the years fly by and they’re suddenly out there making their own way. Pray now for their preparation and God’s blessing for what lies ahead. (Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Make a character prayer

A child with a strong sense of right and wrong will make better decisions and avoid many of the potential tribulations of poorer children. Even in their childhood, children should be prayed for to embrace a life of integrity and goodness. Paul makes it clear: Our hope rests on things unseen (1 Corinthians 15:22). He says that by faith we “stand” firm. Allow nothing to move you. Always give yourself completely to the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”)

 Ask for protection

Even if your child faces playground bullies and struggles to ride a two-wheeler, asking God for protection—physical, emotional, and spiritual—is always a good idea.   Unshakable faith is like a fortress that keeps us safe from fear. Psalm 4:8 says, “I will lie down and sleep in peace.” Rest comes from knowing God, who is behind every storm and all fear (Job 38:1-6). The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” When we call out for help, He hears us, sending loving arms to hold us close.

Ask for joy and peace in your prayers

No amount of money or success will make your child happy unless they learn to be content in a variety of situations. True joy is found in our perspective, not in our circumstances. (1 Corinthians 4:11) “I’m not saying this because I’m in need; I’ve learned to be content no matter what.” “But godliness with contentment is great gain,” 1 Timothy 6:6 says.

Pray for their desire for the important things

It’s difficult to explain to younger children why worldly things are fleeting and eternal things are what you can build a meaningful life around. Pray for God to show you how to live this concept every day in front of them and for them to understand it. (Matthew 5:16 says, “In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

 Ask for purity

The battle for purity for children is largely a battle for their minds: keeping the multitude of negative influences and ideas that the media shouts at them daily at bay. Ask God for guidance and assistance in keeping your children pure in thought and deed. The apostle Paul reminds us that only the good things in life should be appreciated, those which are true and noble. The good thing of life is like diamonds; we are to appreciate them for what they are, not for what they might become.

Make a prayer for their future spouses

It may seem strange to pray about something that will happen twenty years in the future, but there is another child out there, somewhere, who may one day bring all of their baggage, both good and bad, into the life of your child Pray for God to provide your child with the right mate and for them to have a healthy marriage based on a strong shared faith. (James 5:16 “…Pray for one another… A righteous person’s prayer is powerful and effective.”)

Bedtime Peace Prayers

Anxiety can be a drain on your emotions, making them impossible to enjoy anything in life. However, anxiety is not an option. Jesus tells us that anxiety is a waste of energy and should be overcome with faith (Mark 9:24). With prayer and supplication, we can make our requests known to God, asking him to help us keep calm and confident.

Please, Lord Jesus, give my children your peace as they sleep. Give them the assurance of your power, love, and concern. Give them comfort in knowing that their Heavenly Father is keeping an eye on them. Please assist them in not being concerned about tomorrow or what they will face in the coming day.

Lying down is more than just resting your head for a little nap. It can be an act of faith and trust designed to mend the heart, quiet the soul, and make room for dreams. It also demonstrates acceptance. Jesus rested on the Sabbath and told his disciples that their jobs of “servants” would continue beyond that day: “And so I tell you, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more[so] they are conquered by fear of death, but those who are victorious over death are those whom God raises up at last” (Hebrews 10:39-40).

Father God, please give my children the gift of a good night’s sleep. Assist them in having sweet dreams, and if they do have a bad dream, assist them in not being afraid. Thank you that they can rely on your presence even in the dark. Assist them in feeling rested and encouraged when they wake up the next day.

Prayers for the Blessing of Your Children

“Blessed is the man who fears the Lord…the upright generation will be blessed.” Psalm 112:1-2

You have moved me to fear you, Lord Jesus, and I want to fear you. Assist me in delighting in your commandments more and more. Please make my children and descendants powerful in the land. Please use each one to have an impact on thousands of people for you.

“Blessed are the children of the righteous who walk in their integrity!” Proverbs 20:7

Thank you, Lord, for assisting me in walking in integrity. You said you would bless my children if I did this. So I beg you to bless my children. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your delight in answering my prayers for children.

“I was young and now I am old, but I have never seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread.” Psalm 37:25

Thank you, Lord, for never abandoning me in all my years. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me over the years. I pray for my children that you will continue to be faithful to them and provide for them. Thank you very much, Lord.

Prayers Concerning Obedience

“I have strong confidence in the Lord, and his children will have a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26

Please, Lord God, help me to fear you. Please keep me away from temptation and sin. And please keep my children safe from temptation, sin, evil, and harm. Thank you for being our mighty refuge.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and he will not stray even when he is old.” Proverbs 22:6

Father, I’m sure I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my efforts to teach my children your ways. Nonetheless, I have faith in YOUR faithfulness to my children. I trust you to save them, draw them to you, protect them, and make them follow and obey you. With this assurance, I pray for my children, asking that you keep them until they are old.

“And I am confident that he who started a good work in you will finish it on the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Father, you have begun a good work in me by instilling faith in Christ and faithfully leading me in your ways. I believe you’ve started a good work in my children by entrusting them to me. Please finish this good work by making them productive for you.
